My Mind Dump Stephanie Jones Christmas Album Review

October 2003

Sometimes less is more as is in the case of the organically, simple and real "Spirit of Christmas" album by Stephanie Urbina Jones....Originally intended to be a simple guitar/ vocal album.... Jones went into the studio with fellow bandmates and in one day created this magical piece of Yuletide "Spirit in Song" that grooves and is obviously an inspired piece of work. Lacing in mandolins, piano, guitar, bass, drums, accordians and of course a few mariachi trumpets..Jones takes you through a landscape of sounds and textures that will put any listener in the mood for a celebration. Reminiscent of Norah Jones in its bare-bones approach and strong songwriting the album is complete with five classic tunes and five self-penned originals ranging from the down-home country soul of Hallelujah Chorus , to the jazzy/ blues take on "Santa Claus is Comin to Town" to the latin flavored "Silent Night" . Jones delights the listener from song to song... her vocals are strong passionate and intimate as witnessed in the single from the album.."One Little Boy" ...a poignant and time appropriate song about more than anything else... forgiveness. The song will be accompanied by a beautiful video to be released nation wide this holiday season. There is no boundary that Jones doesn't cross on this powerfully, soulful string of tunes and just when you've been brought to tears she takes you through a rockin R version of " Winter Wonderland" and then fills in your hope for some romantic excursions this season with her self-penned "Sexy Saucy Sometimes Naughty Time of Year" and "You Light Me Up Like Christmas Tree"..Jones rounds out the album with a chill bump version of "The Christmas Song" ... No frills, no strings, just a piano and a soulful woman capturing the "Spirit of Christmas" in Song....
